The benefits of lighting towers for facilities and construction sites

Sunday, November 26th, 2023

Whether it’s a facility, arena, infrastructure project, or construction site, portable lighting towers offer unbeatable flexibility and value for money versus fixed lighting units (which often simply aren’t practical for such sites). No wonder more and more companies are choosing to hire them. In this article we’ll explain why lighting towers have become so popular, looking at their many advantages.

Ease of construction

Unlike permanent lighting structures, lighting towers are fairly straightforward to set up. They can simply be wheeled into position and consist of easy-to-maneuver arms that can be folded into place with relative ease. This also means that they are easy to adjust or change position should the need arise.

No special training

As discussed in the previous paragraph, lighting towers are straightforward to set up and don’t require specialist construction or electrical skills in the way more permanent light rigging might.

Ease of transportation

Lighting towers are designed with ease of transportation in mind. In fact, many lighting towers can be towed by the average car. This means you don’t have to worry about getting in specialist hauliers to transport your lighting equipment and all the associated loading and unloading equipment.

The position of your lighting towers can be easily changed

As mentioned above, lighting towers are easily transported. This applies within a worksite as much as it does to and from one, so if you need to adjust the position of your lighting tower, or move it to another part of the worksite, there’s no hassle involved.

Wide range of applications

Lighting towers are quite versatile when it comes to where they can be used. Construction sites are common, as are road infrastructure projects, with their ease of transportation coming into its own. They are also quite useful in sporting and event facilities, where changing conditions or performances may necessitate frequent adjustments—in such instances, they are more practical than a fixed lighting structure.

Lighting towers do not require a connection to the grid

Lighting towers can be fitted with portable generators, which means you do not have to have a connection to mains electricity in order to use them. This is particularly advantageous if on new-build construction sites or temporary facilities.

Lighting towers can augment the safety and security of your site

Having a lighting tower on site automatically enhances its safety and security. Unlit work areas are a hazard, and handheld torches are no substitute for the lighting that a lighting tower can provide. In addition, a well-lit site is good for security, for the risk of being easily seen is quite the deterrent to would-be trespassers, vandals, and thieves. The sight of a lit-up lighting tower may be enough to ward them off.

Increase productivity by enabling nighttime and winter working

If you’re operating a construction site without adequate lighting, you’ll more than likely have to cease or restrict operations after dark. This means no nighttime working, and fewer productive hours available during the darker winter months. With a lighting tower, you don’t need to worry about this and proceed with work even in low light conditions.

There’s no capital outlay if you choose to hire a lighting tower

Not only are fixed lighting units cumbersome and difficult (if not outright impossible) to adjust as demands change, but they also require a huge outlay of capital spend (even though they may only see seasonal use). Hiring out a lighting tower is a far more efficient solution in this regard, for you only pay for the lighting tower while you actually need it, nor do you have to worry about maintenance or long-term storage costs. It’s a smart solution.
